CBSE 12th Board Scoring Plan declared, Results to be released by July 31

Much Awaited debate on the 12th CBSE board exam came to end on 17th June as The 12-member committee constituted by CBSE told the Supreme Court that the Class 12 results will be declared by July 31.

The total marks should be based on the past performance of the school in Class 12 board exams, it said. “The historical performance of the school, in terms of the best overall performance in the previous three years’ Board examination, will be taken as the reference for moderating the marks assessed by the school for 2020-21,” the Board has said.

However, students are not thrilled about the new marking scheme, particularly because of the inclusion of previous years’ marks. Teachers have also claimed that the scheme is unfair and leaves a lot of room for questions.

“The proposed methodology may seriously disadvantage students showing progress over a period of time. CBSE, as a system, has never rewarded consistency in performance. It was built on the concept of one high-stakes exam. “To begin with, that is a wrong system. One cannot try to correct it with this kind of criterion, especially so in a year when the students have gone through so much trauma. The evaluation criteria released by CBSE for class 10 was far superior,” he added.

Another class 12 student, Ragini Ramanujam from Brigade School, JP Nagar, Bangalore, said, “I am pretty happy with the criteria because it works quite well for me, but I don’t think it makes much sense. Our subjects in classes 11 and 12 are different from class 10, so it is kind of weird to be taking class 10 marks in 12.”
