Latest Update on Supreme Court Hearing for NEET Reforms
The Supreme Court on Monday (July 27, 2026) said it will take suggestions from the special task force headed by Nandan Nilekani. The court wants ideas on how to make NEET-UG exam online using computer based test.
A bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe was hearing this matter. The judges said that before taking any final decision, they will first check the recommendations of this task force. This is important step because exam reforms is becoming big issue after many problems in competitive tests.
Why Supreme Court is Looking at Online NEET Exam
This case started from a petition filed by RJD MP Sudhakar Singh. In his petition he asked the court for big changes in the way NEET-UG is conducted. One main demand is to change the exam from pen and paper mode to computer based test, which means fully online exam.
This petition was filed after the government and National Testing Agency cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 exam that was held on May 3. The cancellation happened because of strong claims of paper leak. Many students and parents felt very upset and lost trust in the system. The cancellation created lot of stress and confusion among lakhs of students across India.
The Supreme Court is now checking if moving to online system can help stop paper leaks and make the exam more safe and fair for everyone.
Role of Nandan Nilekani Task Force in Exam Reforms
The special task force that Supreme Court wants to take advice from is headed by Nandan Nilekani. He is known for his work in technology and digital systems in India. The government had earlier decided to form this expert group to suggest long term reforms in public examinations.
This task force will look at different options like better technology, stronger security, and ways to make exams fair for all students – whether they live in cities or villages. What Happens Next in the NEET Exam Reform Case

Many education experts and student groups feel that computer based online test can reduce chances of paper leak because question papers will not be printed and carried from one place to another.
