Indian CAs May Soon Practice in Singapore as ICAI and ISCA Move Closer to Mutual Recognition

Two Institutes Exchange Letters of Intent for Full MRA

Indian Chartered Accountants may soon get wider professional recognition in Singapore. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) is moving towards a full Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). Both the institutes has formally exchanged letters showing their intent to work for reciprocal recognition of professional qualifications.

Talks Going On Since 2023

This latest step is building on the ongoing engagement between the two bodies which is continuing since at least 2023. ICAI said in its statement that the proposed MRA will give a more comprehensive framework for recognition of qualifications. For Indian CAs it can improve professional mobility and open more opportunities to work in Singapore, subject to the final conditions of the agreement.

Collaboration on Artificial Intelligence Also Planned

Apart from the mutual recognition talks, the two institutes has also agreed to explore collaboration on artificial intelligence capability building for the accounting profession. This joint work on AI is expected to help members of both institutes stay updated with new technology in the field.
